I found this awesome, dark-green, angora sweater (for only 49-cents) not too long ago and I had the perfect idea for what to do with it.
Angora (or rabbit hair) is super soft (just like cashmere).
I have a huge stash of sweaters with the specific purpose of refashioning, so out of that stash, I picked a couple more sweaters that would coordinate with my dark green one…
I wanted to turn these super soft sweaters into a scarf, but rather than a regular winter scarf, I thought it would be fun to make a winter infinity scarf.
First, I cut all of the sweaters into 7″ x 8″ rectangles…
Once they were all cut out, I pinned them all together (matching right sides)…
…and then stitched them all up…
After sewing all the rectangles together, I then folded the scarf in half (right sides together) like so…
After stitching all the way down the side, I turned it right-side-out and began to finish the ends.
To do this, I tucked in the raw edge of one end of the scarf like so…
…and then stuffed the other end into that end…
And then sewed it together.
And that’s it! Easy peasy.
This is THE softest scarf ever. And because it’s so long, it can be worn different ways and lengths.
You’ll have to forgive the following pictures, it was quite late when I finished this scarf and the lighting stinks. 😦
I made my mom a refashioned, cashmere scarf for Christmas (either last Christmas or the one before) and I was jealous that the 2 shrunken sweaters I had used only had enough material between them to make one scarf. It’s beige and super soft (although I didn’t make that one into an infinity scarf).
These make great gifts, because they’re useful and one of a kind.
After going through my sweater stash to make this scarf, I’ve been thinking about all the other cool things that I can make out of felted wool sweaters and I can’t wait to show you.
Have you been busy with your holiday gift-making? What cool gifts have you been busy creating?
Have a great weekend!
~Jen
Very cute. Love the colors.
Thanks!
That’s a great scarf! And now I know what to do with those shrunken jumpers I can’t bear to throw out!
Awesome! I really like working with sweaters, (wool especially). They’re definitely one of my favorite things to refashion. There are just so many cool things you can do with them! 🙂
That is really awesome. Thank you for posting this because I have a bunch of sweaters and I wanted to turn them into scarfs but I could figure out a good way. Thanks a lot.
Aww, thanks so much for saying that! I’m glad you like it! I have a couple of other scarf ideas too that are totally different. I’ll have to share them with you when I finish. 🙂
Awesome thanks! I need to post pictures of the ones I have finished.
This is pretty awesome! I had grand plans to make this and that and so far, nothing has happened. Oops 🙂
I’m behind too! I always make a huge list of everything that I want to accomplish in a day and it’s usually impossible to finish it all in a week! lol
Good luck! I hope you’ll blog about everything you make, so I can check it all out! 🙂
Very clever idea. You are so lucky to have a thrift store that has those prices…our local thrift store is Goodwill where everything is $6-7… Not much of a thrifty price!!!
I’ve had good luck finding good deals on non-clothing items at Goodwill.
If you have a smartphone and use Foursquare, there are usually coupons (at least where I live) for Goodwill when you check in on Foursquare there. You should check it out. Plus some Goodwills will have Saturday deals every once in a while. It doesn’t hurt to ask! 🙂 Good luck! 🙂
I love this!

Thanks Joy!
Great job! Please, don’t remind me about Christmas gifts! I’m terribly behind this season- I also have an order of eight crocheted mermaid dolls that I have to get to on top of the family’s gifts (which I still need to figure out!) 🙂 But I AM getting a little excited about some of the gifts I want to make. 🙂 Thanks for sharing your great ideas and good luck with all of your gift making!
Thanks Desarae!
The mermaid dolls sound really cute! Do you have an etsy shop?
I’m feeling the pressure too! There are only 40 days until Christmas! Eeek!
No, no Etsy shop (yet!). There is a family friend who has hired me to crochet different items for people on her Christmas least for the last few years. Her little girl loved the mermaid doll that I made for my sister for her birthday, so she asked me to make 8 of them for the little girls in her family for Christmas. 🙂 Do you have a shop? Have you ever thought of getting one going?
I do have a shop, but don’t have anything in it yet! I need to get busy on that!
This is very cute! I have fabric and a pattern for an infinity scarf, but my fabrics are knits. Do you think the scarf would be okay in stretch fabrics?
Yes, absolutely! I have made a lot of infinity scarves and most of them (including this one) were made from stretchy fabrics. I actually find those ones more comfy! 🙂
I’d love to see the fabric you picked! 🙂
Nicely executed! Great idea, too.
Thank you! 🙂
Beautiful scarf! I’ve cut down on the number of gifts I plan to make this year, as I’m going to be very busy at work until mid-December. However, thanks to some help from my mom, the sewing whiz, I turned a never worn extra long scarf into an infinity scarf for one of my nieces. I’m making her a bracelet in similar colours (denim/grey tones), plus I’ve got a couple of other jewelry projects on the go. My son and I always make Christmas cookies to give to friends and family, so there’s enough to keep me busy when I’m not at work.
Thank you!
I guess you will be busy for sure!
We (my kids and I) love making Christmas cookies also! Pretty much anything sweet actually, like fudge, truffles, and lots of different kinds of cookies and what not! I pack on a lot of weight around this time of year as a result!
Amy (SewsNBows) directed me to this post. It’s just fabulous. I must pin and make one for me. Maybe matching ones for my daughter & her doll!! I am now following your social media too!
Aww, isn’t Amy the best? 🙂
Thanks so much Diana! I’m so glad you like it! I’d love to see yours when you make them! And thanks so much for the follows! I’m waiting with fingers crossed that I win your American Girl giveaway for my daughter! Thanks so much for hosting it! 🙂
